Anonymous user 27/02/2024 - 3.30 PM

Does it cause damage? Tried to remove the ivey from the wal and it’s stuck like Super glue. Any thoughts? It’s coming from my neighbours wall and coming over. So can’t remove from route. Any thoughts

Depending on how long it’s been there will depend on the damage, appose to killing it off using rock salt will solve this issue.

Ivy stems are very acidic and will cause damage as they grow.Best get rid off the Ivy as soon as you can.

Hello, Ivy will cause damage to the exterior of a property if left to its own devices. It can loosen morter joints between brickwork which can then allow water into the property. It's possible damp may appear on the wall also if the bricks can't dry out correctly. If you are struggling to remove it, cut a section away so it dies, then once dried out should pull off much easier.

If it's an old wall built with lime mortar it will damage it. The ivy will grow in between the joints and beds expanding and breaking the wall over time. This doesn't necessarily mean the wall will fall or collapse as the ivy can hold it together to a certain extent. If it's a wall built with sand and cement and is in an okay condition the wall should be okay The problem will arrive when / if the ivy gets between the bricks. I hope that's some help!
