Why is my oven tripping RCD after cooling down

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Every time I turn my oven off, after it cools down or during cool down it tripe the RCD on the fuse box. Heating element was replaced 2 years ago as oven wasn’t heating up now this problem. But when I turn the oven off by isolator switch then turn the oven off it doesn’t trip and even when I turn off the top oven as normal, it doesn’t trip. The appliance engineer wants £80 to test the oven element, then 2nd visit which will be £80 again + whatever the problem is + labour. Spoke to few electricians and they say they never come across this problem. Can anyone help. I don’t want get a new oven and problem continues or do I just turn off oven by isolator switch after using oven (don’t use oven as much as use air fryer)

It could be excessive earth leakage.

By having a qualified electrician inspect both the oven circuit and the appliance itself, you will have a clear understanding of the root cause of the issue. In some cases, the problem may not be with the oven, but rather with the electrical circuit. If that's the case, addressing the circuit issue may resolve the problem without the need for a new oven. However, if the electrician confirms that the oven is indeed the cause, then replacing it would be the recommended course of action. This approach ensures that you only replace the oven if it is absolutely necessary, potentially saving you unnecessary expenses.
