Laying chipboard flooring

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Sorry this is a 3 parter. 1. If I got my original floor boards removed and replaced with 18-22mm chipboard how level can I expect my room floor to be after the job is complete and underlay and laminate Installed. 2. If for any reason the chip board couldn't go down level would there be anything a carpenter could do as they are doing the job or is this something that would have to be done separate from the removal and replace job? 3. If a floor is left uneven what could be expected to happen over time on that floor? Sorry for the long question, any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Your floor will only ever be as level as the original joists under your floorboards. Chipboard flooring won’t level your flooring for you. What can be done to get your flooring level depending how much levelling is need is for a carpenter to cut timber firrings and pin them onto the joists. Laminate flooring does have some give in it which is why so many homeowners use it because if a floor is slightly out of level you’ll never really notice walking on it. An engineered wooden floor doesn’t have much give in it so again depending on the level of floor you’d notice it more. Hope this helps you Jake Mills (Mills Carpentry)

I completely agree with what is said here from Jake Mills. I think it is important to note that anything is possible to do. It boils down to how much work you would like to happen. Ultimately you can get the floor level with the extra effort initially. I trust this has also helped. Kind Regards, Adam Grace, Prosperous Home Improvement.
