Door closer in our fire door
Anonymous user 29/02/2024 - 3.34 PM
Hi, We’ve just had a fire door fitted between our hallway and our garage, but they’ve installed a commercial style overheard door closer which opens into the hallway, so it looks ugly. My Q is, would I be able to buy something like this instead… https://www.safelincs.co.uk/astra-3003-series-concealed-door-closers/ The door frame appears to be UPVC, I don’t know if that makes it impossible to do something like this or not? Thanks Steve

You could take the closer off turn it upside down and fit it on the garage side of the door. Not sure if this would comply with fire regs though.

Although it’s possible, doing this with a UPVC frame can void its integrity. You will need to check with the door manufacturers guidelines if any other maintenance can be done including changing the closer for a rasper as in your link. Other than that, unfortunately you may have to have it as it is.
Hope this help.

Excellent answer from duchy glass and this would not go against fire regulations.

You could fit an hidden closer that goes in the door and attatches to the frame so you won't see it
