Where do you put movement joints in a brick wall when there are doors and windows?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.33 PM

Hi, when placing movement joints in a brick wall where there are a row of doors and windows, do you put the movement joints at the door and window surrounds like the edges of the window and door opening? or as long as you put the movement joints in the space between the doors and windows it will be okay

A movement joint needs to be all in brickwork both sides,Ifyou go down the side of a window if it moves it will smash the window . A movement joint has to go every 12 m in a long run I think

Hi, the movement joins on a standard clay brick wall are placed every 10-12metres apart.

12 meters in a long wall, but see where your window reveals are and come 6-8 m back from the window if you've got the distance to do so.
