Crack along join of weatherboard
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 3.30 PM
Hi, I have a UPVC door which leaks when it rains. The rain Ingress in part I believe may be down to the seal being broken on the weatherboard at the base of the door, and water dripping down through the inside rubber seal of the door and onto the window frame and latterly the inside. Any advice on fact finding? There is an issue in that a step has been made up above the damp course to allow entry too which might be causing water ingress too but wanted thoughts. Thanks

It's probably due to the drain holes being blocked. If you open the door and look at the bottom of the subframe you'll se two small usually oblong but sometimes round holes in the frame. These allow any water ingression to drain away outside and over the outer cill. They are almost certainly blocked if you've got access to either a pressure washer or mini steam cleaner try using either directly to unblock them. You can always check by pouring a quantity of water through them and watch to see if it drains over the outer cill.
Hope this helps

To investigate the leak in your UPVC door, please check the door's alignment and make sure it closes properly. Inspect the weatherboard and door seals for damage or wear, replacing any compromised parts. Consider the impact of the step above the damp course; it might redirect water towards the door. If these steps don't resolve the issue, consulting a professional for a thorough assessment might be necessary, as the problem could involve complex factors like structural issues or improper installation.

Also make sure you have a drip bar fitted as this deflects the water away

You don’t say if the door is fitted onto a projecting sill or is face drained.
