Damp Proofing

What causes this mould is it safe to relay

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Photo here https://ibb.co/pP0xb2B We had plastic sheets on the carpet because we had bird cages in the room. They make a lot of mess bathing but mostly the floor should have been protected. We moved them and found this red mould. The carpet and underlay needs replacing but before I do, I want to make sure it isn't a bigger problem. The walls, skirting etc aren't wet. There are tiles under the carpet and when I chipped it away, the concrete is dry. I had a leaky roof and we had mould before but it looks completely different is size, location, spread, affect etc. so I don't think it's that. The wall it's next too is a chimney wall. Could a leak from the chimney have caused it? There are no signs on the wall. There is also a radiator but no signs there if a leak either.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

without looking its really impossible to be 100% sure of the cause, but most likely the plastic sheets you had down stopped any air flow under them allowing the perfect conditions for mould to grow, if unsure get a specialist in to double check for any water ingress
