Has this new roof been correctly done?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

Hi, I had my roof done 6 months ago to stop a leak, but it's not stopped the leak and I've been trying for the past 6 months to get the roofer back in to sort it. They've claimed everything like guttering issues and that things don't need sorting, so I've been slowly knocking them off one-by-one (I had a down pipe fitted to create extra drain points, and had the gutters cleaned) but one thing has been bothering me. It looks as if half the roof hasn't been sealed in at all. I'm no roofer, but it looks like there's no mortar between the tiles. If they've installed a bonding gutter, I would expect there to be mortar here, but I've no idea. Does this look correct? Thanks. Please see this link for the roof: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Ej7Sx3bhM7A38ZDkPcfxzBtrTbscae52?usp=sharing

Bonding gutters from slate to tiles the tile side should always be mortared as the profile from the bonding gutter isn't adequate to stop driving rain.

It shouldn't be left open like that and it depends on which bonding gutter they've used, the wind will blow the rain under the tile. I could be wrong but it doesn't look like the end ridges have been drilled and mechanical fixed. You need to see the joint between the roofs open to inspect the bonding gutter as there's several types for different profile of tiles. I'd guess they've used a slate bonding gutter because it's a flat tile profile, but it needs a the tile type with capillary bars and sand strip to mortar bed and close the gap off.

I think they should have overlapped the tiles more so that the rain can't drive in with the wind but I think it would have been a good idea a bonding gutter with a center strip or cemented the tiles. Hope this has answered your question, nigel, A.R.Solutions.

The tiles need a minimum manufacture overlap which I’m sure they do not have
