Lining paper over uneven walls - can I fill to smooth over?

Anonymous user 08/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

My hallway walls have had electrical conduit channeled into them for wall lights at some point. The channels (leading up from sockets) have been badly filled and are visible through the lining paper that has been put over the top. I was wondering can I fill these depressions with easy fill 60, or something similar rather than take all the paper off (it has many coast of paint on!). I hate the thought of doing a bodge job so was wondering if there was an acceptable fix that doesn’t involve re-papering or re-plastering. Thoughts very welcome!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The best fix is to take the lining paper off and rechase the wire then it can be bonded over and reskimmed

As you have said you do not want to cut corners, therefore remove all paper back to bare. Then get a good plastering company to skim your walls. Once dry don’t forget to mist coat before painting.

I would cut out the paper with level near enough the width of the chase then I would carefully take of the protruding plaster just slightly under the others walls with a blunt chisel and a hammer then yeh a good fine filler again slightly touching the paper then sound down blending into the paper it needs patients but if your good at diy that will be perfect

You can use filler but you will have to take the paper off to do so
