How long should I give the tradesman to finish my work?

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

I hired a patio company in early January. I paid in full in early January which was very stupid. They have nearly finished the patio. I have paid for all the materials. They have not started the drive although the paving slabs have been delivered and are just sitting there, in the open. The job was supposed to take 5 days. I have heard everything from a sick relative to that he has taken on another job at the same time and will basically fit me in. I have now given him a date in February when it has to be finished by. This is the second company I have hired for the same job, they had to redo the first disaster. Do I just hang on and hope for it to be finished?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would basically say due to you paying upfront that money has now gone so they did not have the money to finish the job due to either under pricing, the work or simply they have spent the money because they’ve been given it early and retaining it to do the job so therefore they are now trying to complete the work while they have other jobs going on which is helping finance yours

Yes they are most the most Toby caused a problem and doesn’t wanna come back to finish the job because I know it’s going to be a problem and then the second one has found the problem and it’s quoted too low so doesn’t wanna finish the job.or they have spent the money and are stealing from Phil to pay Peter and if you haven’t gave them a deposit, then you can just cancel the workers from coming and text him saying that you no longer need them.

Sounds like you have been court out. they have had your money and moved on. just give them until the new date and see what happens then. Find out were they operate from and send them a letter requesting your money back, they just might be honest enough and full fill there obligations. who knows.

Request all the money back within a week, always sign a contract, or do the project in phases and pay for each phase done.
