Sewage Smell and worse!

Anonymous user 05/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

We had a brand new shower room created by a team and we were very happy with the work until we started to experience bad smells. The job required a macerator and a 4 inch pipe and I noted that every time you flushed the toilet the shower gurgles. So as time goes on we have been trying to get to the bottom of the sewage smell - we contacted the plumber who put the toilet and I told him we explored and found that sewage is entering the lower trap of the shower. You can see toilet paper floating around in the lower trap and worse. So I guess little raw sewage is spilling into the shower trap. This can’t be right surely?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

by a team of what ?,were their any qualified plumbers in the team ?.no this is not right, this the result of poor plumbing installation and design, your best bet is to get a qualified plumber to inspect and advise you, the chartered institute of plumbing and heating engineers will be able to recommend a qualified engineer.

It's been plumbed incorrectly. Probably not the correct angles for water flow and bends to stop waste and sewer gases/smells coming up the drains. The reason we do bends under sinks and anywhere else waste enters isn't just to keep the water flow down it's to stop gases and smells. If waste is coming up the shower drain then it sounds like the waste pipe from the shower drain is angled incorrectly. They need to fix it.
