Replacing Glass Family Room Roof with Proper Roof (Not a conservatory!)

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

We have a family room which is a continuation of our kitchen diner. The roof is a pitched glass roof, 4 large panels. The room itself is very much part of the house, there is no door between the kitchen/diner and it, the side wall is brick, one wall backs onto the lounge and the other has patio doors and 2 half windows. My question is, is it possible to replace this roof with a proper built and tiled roof? The room is unusable due to being south facing, even after coating, and one of the glass panels also has a crack from dodgy tradesmen walking on it when fixing our gutter :( We just want to make the room completely usable but don't just want a typical conservatory "cover up" which is all I can find information on, we would rather put a proper roof if possible. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes.You are able to,as long as you check with your local council if it needs approval. Some investing is required to make sure it is safe to add that much weight on the existing building, this is why you might need to ask a structural engineer.

Hi we tend to use shingles when converting conservatory glass roofs they are light weight and no need for steel support putting in. The inside can be cladded and insulated
