Sewer Gas from toilet Air admittance valve

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.08 PM

In our upstairs toilet there is a basin on top of the toilet cistern. The water from the basin empties into to cistern to be flushed away. There is a. Air admittance valve attached to the toilet soil pipe. There is a strong sewer Gas smell. Taken the AAV off and made sure it's working. I think the smell may be coming up ftom the toilet trap. The toilet empties into a soil pipe that flows into a shared drain. Any ideas how to solve?

your aav may be working ( how did you check that it is ? ),but if you have back pressure in your drains this will force foul gasses through traps on wc and other traps, this can be caused by blockages in drainage systems, get a qualified plumber to check it for you.
