Bathroom Fitting

Do I have to pay if not quoted and fault was initial installation & fitting?

Anonymous user 26/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

Our bathroom shower leaked (uncontrollably) 3 months after being fitted (initial leaking was reported immediately but we were told this was common for new showers). The fitter could not determine what had caused the leak- his fitting or the valve. We were left without a working shower and bath for 6 months before pipes were finally re-figured and the leak stopped. We were then sent a large bill but are disputing it as no quote was ever given, the fault was seemingly with the pipework/ initial fitting rather than a faulty valve (as this was never replaced). Do we have to pay?

1. Newly installed showers do not leak when fitted correctly 2. Valve or fitting, this should be looked at immediately not 6 months later. 3. If fitting error then no further costs should be added 4. If valve error then client pays for valve and fitting labour costs 5. Any costs should be agreed before work commenced and agreed with a contract or at least though email so you have written communication. Hope this helps, Nev @ NMB

There is no reason why a newly installed shower would leak. if this was reported straight away then it is up to your installer to put right. you do not indicate what the bill you have been given is for. the leak could have coursed damage to other areas if this is the situation then your installers public liability insurance should cover this, But it will be difficult to prove.

Newly installed showers shouldn’t leak if there is then the fitter should’ve solved the issue if you are sent a large bill and the fault is from the fitter then he’s liable and should pay to get any damage resolved
