Can I take power from an fcu switch to power 2 double socket?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.54 PM
I have a fcu switch that controls my electric skylight window. I want to add 2 double sockets in my wall but there is nowhere to take the power from. Can I take the power from the fsu switch from the load side to add 2 double sockets?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the FCU is fused at 13a and on the main ring or radial of the sockets (turn the breaker off for sockets and see if it still works, if it doesn't, yes it can power two more double sockets

The best option is to take power from the feed side into a new separate fused switch with 13A fuse which goes to the sockets. The load side on the window fused switch is probably rated at 3 or 5A.

The load side will be fused at 3A so you shouldn't supply your new sockets from there. Is the circuit a ring or a radial? That will determine how any new sockets will be connected (assuming this is a power circuit). I would advise you get an electrician to quote for the works, that way it will also be tested & certified.

Take a cable from the feed side to a new fcu, and then add two double sockets in from the load side as the fcu for the sky light is probably fused down to 3a.👍🏽
