Fencing on budget

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

Hi there, myself and neighbours fence really needs replacing but both of us on limited money etc but would like to try and get concrete posts gravel boards and fence panels I hope lasts longer than what’s been there…. Nearer the house is 3-4 concrete posts, but old school ones for just wire through them and then wooden posts and fence panels… we are looking to just get a section of around 5 panels to start with and add to it each time and finally make it to end of the garden…. Is there any tips or advice

If the old school post are still in good condition and go the full length of the garden you can Boult 4×2 to them and fence off that this way you can save money on posts and labour and you only need to take down as much fencing as you can afford. Hope this helps.

Due to your fence choice, you wouldn't be able to utilise the existing concrete posts for panels. The posts would have to come out. However, you could use them if you went for traditional 3 meter bays. The saving won't be much, but the quality is far better. Hope this helps.

Best option is to dig out all old post and take your time doing the job gradually

From the 'old school' posts this is council or ex council housing . If council then get them to do it . If not then rip all out yourself leave it blank . Have a big garden that TWO families can use and grow there own food .

My first thought would be to not re-use old fence posts. concrete does have a life expectancy and small cracks can allow the metal re-enforcing break down over a number of years. If your on a tight budget, its worth asking at your local fencing supplier (especially if they produce their own) They often have concrete posts, gravel boards and panels with small defects that can't be sold at full mark up...
