Kitchen floor tiles with edge strip before or after cabinet fitting

Kitchen companies tell you to tile the whole floor before the cabinets are fitted. However, say you want a different coloured edging border. How can this be done beforehand since you don’t know the precise position of the cabinets? A similar problem occurs if you want a chequerboard pattern and the kitchen isn’t perfectly square. You have to have a border to make it look neat but this can’t be done before the units. Thank you. Thanks to everyone who replied. Very helpful.

Kitchen companies tell you this as it does make fitting and levelling the kitchen cabinets easier. However, if you would like tiles with a border around the units. It would be fine to have the floor tiled after the cabinets have been fitted, providing the subfloor is it good enough condition. Thanks

Hi, The preference for a fully tiled floor before fitting, is mainly for ease of levels when installing the cabinets. If sections are missing from the floor then cabinets need levelling to the sub floor, whereas the plinths will be scribed to the finished floor level. That said, kitchen companies don't normally give floor layouts, but this is basically the same as you worktop plan, minus the plinth set back. It is a relatively easy process of transferring your worktop edge lines down to the sub floor, then this should give you you perimeter border for plinths etc. Hope that helps

On top of the previous answer it's also more expensive if tiled after installation as more cuts so takes longer so something to consider 👍 looks better if done before imo
