Should particle board be used in the construction of a solid conservatory roof

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

I hired a company which has left me without a roof over a very wet weekend. It's taken them 3 days to remove the old polycarbonate roof and build a wooden framework. There's something similar to Kingspan sitting on my patio alongside what looks like very thick chipboard/particle board which is soaking wet. I'm concerned they shouldn't install it and get new.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Good imornng mi opinion is that they should covered the surface with waterproof blanket until they will finish. Regarding the soaked chipboard. Yes I will definitely recommend to replace it

Any wet chipboard will expand and deteriate also if changing a polycarbonate to roof to a heavier timber roof make sure all provisions of extra weight have been calculated

Please can I ask:- Are the roof builders working to building control standards? if so, they should be (as the gentleman said above) using a breather membrane over the OSB and tile mesh when possible. Certainly, you do not want to be using wet boards!

Timing is key for a off on roof change, cozyroofs are wax coated wpb pods,so a drizzle on the day of install before felting is fair enough but left uncovered even over night is amatuer let alone more than a mornings work for 2 men to take down to ringbeam is to be honest a poor diy er at best...sorry
