Mixer Shower Valve for On Demand Gas Water Heater

Anonymous user 21 February 2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi. I will be fitting an on demand gas water heater to supply our shower and a few sink taps. My query refers to the mixer valve for the shower. All the mixer valves I have seen require the hot water input to be at least 60 degrees C for it to work properly. However it seems wasteful to heat up the water from the on demand gas water heater to 60 degrees C only to cool it down again to 38 degrees C at the mixer valve. The gas water heater can be set to the required temperature but I need a mixer valve that allows for lower hot water input. Can anyone advise on the best solution or do I have to accept that input temperature to the valve is at least 60 degrees C. Thank you.

This shouldn’t be an issue as although it seems wasteful to heat the water up that high for it to be mixed with cold, it won’t need to heat up as much water. I don’t believe it will be any more of a waste of energy than if the water heater ran at 38 degrees. Hope this helps

Any hot water has to be set at a minimum of 55 degrees output of any stored hot water because of the risk of legionella contamination. I hope this helps

Usually you would have an electric shower and a separate water heater for sinks, this is due to the issue you are concerned about and different temperatures are needed Hope this helps
