Vaillant ecoTEC pro 24 - continually heating radiators

Anonymous user 20/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

We had our boiler serviced a month ago once we moved into the property, by an engineer, and no problems were detected Our wireless thermostat is always set for 18 or 19° when we are home Usually it struggles to get the house up to this temperature and the flame symbol will stay (on the thermostat) but the boiler seems to stop heating the radiators despite not reaching the target temperature. We had put this down to the boiler not being powerful enough for the property (2 bed bungalow) Today the radiators continued to heat the house and it reached 25.5°, which is very unusual. The flame symbol was off (on the thermostat) but the boiler was on full (we have it set to 65°), the radiator symbol was on (on the boiler) and radiators hot We were not sure what to do, so reset it a few times by pressing the pilot light button. Also tried turning it on and off with the power switch. This changed nothing. Then we switched the thermostat to "off". This did nothing Then took the batteries out and replaced with new ones. This did nothing Then at some point the egg timer symbol appeared on the boiler We then turned up the target temperature on the thermostat to above the current room temp, then right down to 15°. After this the boiler kept the egg timer symbol for a couple of minutes then the radiator symbol went off Then the egg timer symbol went off It now seems to be no longer heating the house Any ideas what happened here? Could it have just been a random error and is it okay to wait and see what happens? Or is this a common fault or a sign of something failing? Thank you in advance for any help or guidance you can give

It seems like just an air issue, I’ve had this before on Vaillant, they’re not so good when air gets in the system.

It's possible that the issue could be related to a thermostat or control system malfunction. You may want to check if the thermostat is sending consistent signals to the boiler. If the problem persists, it's advisable to contact a professional heating engineer to assess and diagnose the specific issue with your Vaillant ecoTEC pro 24 system. Continuous heating despite reaching the set temperature could indicate a faulty thermostat, sensor, or control component.

Most likely the wireless stat has lost connection with the wireless receiver or the receiver box has been manually overrided.

The first thing would be to check the thermostat is controlling the boiler to switch on and off consistently.if the boiler has been serviced the engineer should have run a purge cycle which takes 20 mins and removes air from the system and the auto air vent should be open but many times I see them closed which is incorrect.
