Alternatives to tiles for a small bathroom wall behind a toilet

Anonymous user 20/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi, Ive spent thousands on faulty plumbing and electrics in my sons first flat as he couldn’t afford it. We need to replace a small wall behind the toilet following work it’s approximately 84cm wide and 83.5 cm high and we’ve got no matching tiles. Ive tried every supplier and gone on tile matching apps etc but Ive had no joy. we probably need to be able to access the complicated pipe work behind in the future, so I’m wondering what alternatives I can use instead of tiles rather than choosing a bad tile match. I can’t get a quote for the work until I get some ideas of what to put on the wall. Help please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

PVC Shower board might be a good alternative and it would be a contrast to your existing tiles. You can also make it accessible to concealed pipework by attaching to 12mm plywood as a backing.

I can use a specific filler and add a color on it untill we match the tiles and do " fake tiles" on the wall.

Installing a small ‘access panel’ (available from builders merchants/diy shops) would be the easiest solution, however, they can’t be hidden or tiled over. They can be painted to match decor. PVC shower board is a good suggestion but maybe an alternative solution would be to fit a mirror (made to measure) with some chrome screw cover caps that are aesthetically pleasing and can be easily undone so the mirror can be removed for access. In a small WC that you are describing it would provide the illusion of more space and light.

It a reasonable answer but there is 12.5mm ply shower board available in a multitude of colours and styles. Multi panel is one and mermaid is another plus many more.
