Radiator pipes in the way of floor/skirting boards

Anonymous user 20/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

I intend to replace the carpet in the hallway and living room with laminate floor. The problem is that the radiator pipes are very low / close to the floor. They go through the skirting board and sit very tightly on the carpet in front of the wall. As they are now, they would be in the way of the new laminate floor as the laminate would not go until the wall. What would be the solution?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would finish the laminate up to the pipe work allowing a gap for expansion. Then create new box skirting to cover the gap and hide the pipes.

Hi there, There are 2 different options I would approach this. you could either lay flooring and create a boxing using the skirting boards. or you could potentially chase out the floor or wall and move the pipes into the wall. Creating a nicer cleaner finish.

Hello Pedro, I think the best solution would be to call a plumber first and put the pipes under the floor, and then install the laminate.

depends on how you want the finish to look, i would personally get a plumber to make any needed adjustments to the pipe work to bring them to the underside of the radiator and then this would allow for the new flooring to flow near to the skirting/wall. but if your not so fussy then you could just take them up to the pipes and box round them. not ideal ?
