Sand and cement finishes are more traditional and may offer durability, but they might not provide as much insulation as dot and dab plasterboard. However, dot and dab can create a gap behind the boards, potentially reducing drafts in a 1930s house.

For old houses 🏠 our recommendation- 1) Strip back to bricks 2) Apply damp proof membrane 3) Seal corners 4) Plasterboard (dot and dab) 5) Skim 5) Prime and paint -> Bullet proof, we never had any issues

All depends on the cavity of the building if the building is 1930s there’s a very good chance there would be no cavity on the dwelling so it may draw damp throw so to dot a dab so I would all ways use sand cement with a waterproof adhesive

Dot and dab is definitely a better choice for indoors its cheaper much easier to repair if damaged it has a smoother finish once skimmed and use a insulated plasterboard to help keep the heat in and the cold out

Hey, So brick buildings need to be basically rebuilt. Step by Step Preparation. Brush of dust and loose from wall. Paint/spray a 50:50 mix of PVA or SBR Sand/cement SCRATCH coat with waterproofer. You could now carry on with a render coat then skim finish…. Which is tried and tested to be the best…. Or you can get insulated plasterboard 25 inch+ dab this on and skim. On the groundfloor of a brick property I recommend tanking as much of the walls as possible 1metre 200mm minimum from floor then with what ever finish you prefer mortor or board finish.. I hope this has answerd the question.. Belt and Braces!!! Cheers
