Twin spindle lock, 2 deadbolts, moving oppositely to each other

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

I have just replaced a broken twin spindle lock on my front door, something in the gear work connecting the top spindle (connected to door handle) to the bottom (what unlocked the two deabolts in top and bottom of door). I replaced the lock, it worked well enough at first, but only one deadbolt was moving when lifting the handle. I had to rush to work however so I decided the door could lock so Id come back to it. Only now since my partner tried to use it, lifting the handle engages the bottom deadbolt, and pressing down locks the top bolt. They move opposite to each other and It is permanently locked and cannot even be removed from the inside. I must have fitted it wrong at first. Please give advise on removal of lock and what to ensure it is refitted properly.

It's likely the top bolt box has come loose from the mech or is broken

Is this a lock mechanism is for a UPVC door? If so, depending on time and age of lock they do have wear and tear and also expand and contract summer and winter. If it’s possible to just ease the lock out I’m presuming as a euro lock thire is long screw on the front normally below the barrel Just gently unscrew half a turn, Spray lots of WD-40 on the mechanism at the bolt at the top and at the front, leave it to take in by about 10 minutes and then try to handle by forcing it upwards and then back down again.. If it’s still not working, the you’got to change the mechanism. Internal pressure on the handles will cause a lot of were and tear on the mechanism.
