My plastering is coming away from old chimney wall. What can I do to resolve?

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

I have a wall in a bedroom that has the chimney removed in Aug 2022. By Dec 2022 the house painted plaster work was coming off the wall significantly and large cracks started. What can I do to repair the wall and replaster so this doesn’t happen again?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would say the plaster was the problem maybe not dried out properly,or over painted applied coat over coat,or neat paint used and not built the layers off paint up on new plaster being a 50/50 coat first.

Pva the wall before redoing or make the plaster a lil bit more wet so it doesn’t crack on drying.

You have to remove all the loose plaster, than use PVA to seal the wall and I would apply rendering mash before plastering to avoid cracks in future. This is the proper way to do it so you have no problems in the future.
