Designer radiators

Anonymous user 10/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hello All…. In need of some advice please help.. I’m planning to change my standard k1 radiators to oval/tube/column designer horizontal and a few vertical radiators…. Will these designer radiators give sufficient heat to keep my home warm? The btu’s on them are more then adequate for my requirements but there seem to be many telling me these radiators will not keep your home warm because of convection and radiation percentages…. Please advise…. New rads: https://www.aicabathrooms.co.uk/products/oval-column-horizontal-radiator?variant=29353851650100

Like you, we can only go by Manufacturers' claims. If your heat-loss calculations for a room, tell you a 1 kW (3412.142 BTU/hr) output, radiator is required, then purchasing and installing a rad with that or a higher output will satisfy the heating requirements of the space. It is important to ensure you are using the correct dT for the radiator and your CH flow temperature. More info regarding Heat Loss calculations and dT (Delta T of radiators) can be found online.

Generally with designer radiators I would advise to slightly oversize them as they are for looks aswell as functionality. Once you've measured the room and found out the output required say if its 2kw i would go for 2.2kw. You can turn a radiator down with the TRV if its too hot in the room, however if the radiator doesn't heat the room efficiently it can't be turned up.
