Must I pay the excess on insurance policy
Anonymous user 10/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
Window company goes into administration and is taken over by another who have told me they have taken on all pre existing customers. I still have issues with windows/doors which the new insurance company have said they will honour. I need to apparently make a claim and get an independent trader to list fixes. I then need to pay £100 excess in order to get the work done. Should I be liable to pay this excess in order to get problems fixed.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Tbh I would ask a solicitor. It's unusual for an external company to take over a double glazing company. Usually (and I guess this is the case) it'll be the same ceo, directors and most likely fitters but with a new name. They've likely knocked suppliers and now won't honour guarantees but still want their customer leads.

I’d have thought so yes. With any insurance they will cover the costs minus the excess. Which is usually sorted first

As the insurance company has stated that they will still honour the policy this would be a claim to this policy and the excess would have to be paid as in any claim you would be advised to have this in writing from the insurance company
And only after the claim has been costed and agreed upon to be replaced or repaired once this has been resolved then you would pay only when all the work is completed and signed off
