EWI on double wall cavity insulated. Is it worth it?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.36 PM
Part my house is extended with current building standards. (Pre L recent changes) double wall with cavity insulation and normal plasterboard inside. Do I need to put EWI on those walls. Is it not of a waste? For area with single/solid wall. I will definitely do. I’m trying to avoid incessant costs

No absolutely not worth it and a waste of money. On the single skin with no insulation it’s 100% worth it however

Not needed for cavity walls with correct insulation.

No to the first question.
And single skin gets insulated, usually timber studs then insulation between the studs, either normal plaster board or insulated screwed to studs , depending on the finish line with polystyrene about 2mm thickness then wall paper. Usually do a lot of old stone basements this way.

Cavity wall insulation is as basic as it gets. An additional later of insulation will only aid your U value and decrease your energy bills.
