Which tradesman do I need to find out why one part of my house is so cold?

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

My house has a sort of out-building at the end of the kitchen which has a laundry room, toilet and boiler room, as well as an external door. I've recently had a door fitted between the kitchen and this area which has made the house much warmer, but now the out-building area is much colder. I don't know why the area is so cold but the possibilities are: The tiled floor has been laid directly onto the concrete below, with no insulation which is making it cold. There may not be any/enough insulation in the cavity walls. There may be a draft somewhere that I haven't found. There may not be enough radiators to warm it properly. There may be little/no insulation in the flat roof on top. It could also be a combination of these so which tradesman should I call in to assess and hopefully cure the problem?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. The right tradesman to give advice about your issue at your property is a general builder which has a holistic knowledge on all the above possibilities you mentioned which I do believe even without seeing the job but only reading your job description as a general builder myself makes me believe that all the above are correct and all put together are accountable for your outbuild being so cold. The ideal solution to answer your questions is for you to get a general builder on site and have a thorough look at the way your outbuild has been build(before any speculations) Kind regards Nick Extension Kings

Based on the description of your out-building area, it seems there are several factors that could be contributing to the cold. To thoroughly assess and address the issue, you might need to consult with more than one type of tradesperson. Here's a breakdown: Building Surveyor or Energy Assessor: Initially, it's wise to bring in a building surveyor or an energy assessor. They can conduct a thorough assessment of the area, identifying issues like poor insulation, heat loss, and potential drafts. They use tools like thermal imaging cameras which can reveal where heat is being lost. Insulation Specialist: If the problem is identified as insufficient insulation in the walls, floor, or roof, an insulation specialist will be able to advise on the best type of insulation for each area and undertake the necessary work. Heating Engineer/Plumber: Should the issue be related to the heating system, such as inadequate radiators or issues with your boiler, a certified heating engineer or plumber should be consulted. They can assess if your current heating system is adequate for the space and suggest improvements or upgrades. General Builder or Carpenter: For issues related to drafts, especially around doors or windows, a general builder or carpenter can help. They can check for any gaps or cracks that need sealing and make sure that all fixtures are properly insulated and draught-proofed. In some cases, you might find that a combination of these tradespeople is needed to fully resolve the issue. It's often a good idea to start with a comprehensive assessment (like from a building surveyor or energy assessor) to get a clear picture of the various factors contributing to the cold, and then bring in the specific trades as needed. Remember, addressing the root cause of the problem is key to finding a lasting solution. Each property is unique, so a tailored approach is always best.

The problem sounds like this was added on . Probably because it has a few walls that are not insulated corrrctly . Again with the roof . The concrete floor is a definite point of concern snd a bad heat loss area
