Hello experts, Should the tradesperson I choose to work with be registered in Companies House? Should I ask that a contract and/or any invoice come from an entity registered at Companies House? Does it afford me any protection / benefits? Is it an issue if this is not the case? I am looking to hire a tradesperson for a small bathroom re-fit. Thank you for your advice.

Choosing a tradesperson registered with Companies House can offer certain benefits, providing a structured framework for contracts and invoices. It may offer legal protections and recourse in case of disputes. However, registration isn't mandatory for all tradespeople. Verify credentials, past work, and consider reviews alongside registration status. A clear, written agreement is important regardless of registration, ensuring mutual understanding and protection.

If, like me they are a sole trader then they won’t be registered at Companies House. Look for reviews and testimonials. A contract can be downloaded off the internet and both signs can agree it.

I agree with The Fixer also if the work requires certification etc make sure the company has the necessary registration with the correct regulatory bodies for the work.
