Restoration of Concrete Window Sills
Anonymous user 05/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
Hi, I have some concrete window sills which have deteriorated following the recent cold weather and storms (with the associated windows being timber sashes). The property is Victorian in nature (late 19th century construction). The paint underneath the sills is badly deteriorated and it seems as if some masonry may have fallen in the recent winds. Which trade would be best to contact for repair work? Many thanks

Could be done by a bricklayer, carpenter
Or plasterer
If the cills are badly broken they may need re casting then I suggest the job would be best done by a carpenter

I would go with a builder or stonemason.
Its not to difficult a job to take them out and renew them completely.

Hi, you would want a stone mason to have a look at that, they will most likely be able to restore the sills for you.

There are specialist trades that only repair these concrete sills. I used to work for one but they're shut down now. It's possible I could repair your sills for you. It needs rubbing down properly. The masonary must be sound so all loose material should be cut away. And a very smooth mortar used to fill and make good before repainting with masonary paint. It's not something you should employ a decorator to attempt. Some general builders may be able to do it. But beware of handy men who may not be skilled in the right area to do a proper repair.
