Gas Works

Disconnect and remove gas hob if no live gas supply in property?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.47 PM

We'll, the title says it all, really! We are totally junking gas for an air source heat pump and induction hob. As part of the ashp install, we've arranged for the gas-safe guy to cap and remove the meter. At this point, the old gas hob is no longer connected to a live gas feed! So am I allowed to rip out the old hob myself, and drop in an electric (13A plug) replacement?

Once confirmed that meter is capped /removed then "yes" ... It just becomes a pipe... Just make sure there's no residual gas in it by undoing fittings and not cutting with anything that may create a spark. I'd also be making sure that the meter goes back to the supplier or that they are informed you no longer have gas as you will otherwise continue to pay the standing charge for their kit... Worth checking this out. Also, depending on which induction hob you go for, you may need more than a 13amp supply!

You can legally remove a hob if it is not connected to a live supply. Regarding the new induction hob and electrics you would be best advised to use an electrician.
