New gas meter location and what I need to consider?
Anonymous user 24/02/2024 - 2.30 PM
I need to move the meter from one side of the house to another. I understand I need to get the gas supplier to move it with a registered gas safe person to connect. Would I need to dig a trench for the gas pipe to be laid in the ground to the new meter? How deep does it need to be? Who supplies the gas pipe to new location? What does the trench get filled with? Concrete?

Under a garden the gas pipe service should be 375mm deep and under a footway 450mm. The trench should usually be 200-300mm wide. The trench should be safe and secure and not likely to cave in. The route of the trench should avoid obstructions such as drains or manhole covers and should be laid in straight lines.
Inside the boundary is your responsibility to dig the ground and outside the boundary is the supplier responsible. In terms of the pipe the supplier will run the pipe from the boundary to the new meter location, which will be plastic. Once done you can back fill with normal soil and then use concrete to level off. Thank you Kam
