Plaster chips around switches etc in newly built and freshly plastered walls

Anonymous user 24/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi folks, Our builder installed light switches, plug sockets and ceiling spotlights in the kitchen they have just built and, during installation, they chipped areas of plaster in the new stud walls around the switches etc Im fine that the damage happened, it’s inevitable during the installation process however they’re not willing to fix the damage and fill the areas of chipped plaster. Is it unreasonable to ask them or is it part of making good? Thanks for any thoughts

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No it’s not unreasonable at all. If he’s damaged the plaster installing them, it should be rectified. These should be loosened to the end of the socket screw thread. Filled with poly filler, Sanded the day after then painted before tightening the screws back up.

best answer here is, if the tradesman is not willing to do it. Don`t let him, he will do a bad job. Don`t expect a electrician to make anything good....ever. If its not a cable, they won`t touch it. :)

Any good builder would fix these things without asking. It could be said that it is the decorators job but in reality its down to the plasterer

The builder must have foreseen this and started work.

Its very poor that he's not taking full responsibility for doing that and even worse he's not bothering to fix what he has done It can be a very easy mistake to make but its even easier to sort out and rectify
