Insulation

Rendering single skin wall

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have a single storey pantry adjoined to my kitchen made of single skin brick wall. I'm planning on insulating it internally with PIR board over batons, but I'm also wondering if it's worth cement rendering the external surface of the wall to prevent ingress too, as "belt and braces"! Can single skin walls be rendered or are they supposed to be left bare?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Using a plastic membrane will cause condensation, then mould, and damp. If your creating a stud work, use a metal stud work, a vapour permeable membrane, to allow moisture and air transfer.
