Can none GasSafe engineers turn my gas on?

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

Had a gas engineer come round yesterday, he turned my gas off and removed power to the boiler as it was being powered dangerously. So I had an electrician in who specialises with boilers as I believed it was just not being powered. He came in powered it but noticed the gas was off, so he's gone ahead & turned the gas on. Can a none GasSafe engineer do this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No Definitely not, he would have no way of testing the gas supply for leaks, even if there were no leaks on the supply, the appliance could be dangerous. You should call a Gas Safe registered engineer, to re test before using.

A non gas engineer should not reinstate the gas to an appliance, regulations state that only a competent and registered engineer should do this and should carry out minimum safety checks when doing so
