Boiler losing pressure, no obvious leaks, no leaks from pressure relief valve

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

Hi, I've called a gas engineer but they can't come out for a while due to busy season with the weather & Christmas. I've got a Worcester Green star 28i Junior. The pressure gauge keeps showing as nearly 0. I have topped it up and within maybe a day it's down to 0 again when it's off. When I turn the heating on it goes up to about 2. When I was filling it, the gauge stopped at 2, even though water was continuing to go in and it should have been creeping to 3. No obvious leaks. I've checked all over. You would have thought that amount of water would be obvious. No staining on floors or ceilings Checked pressure relief valve and nothing had come out. No pipes under concrete as far as I'm aware. What could this be? Update - thank you. I'll give these a go while I'm waiting. What's odd is that I've left it maybe 2 weeks between topping up and spotting it and having to top up again. Shouldn't the boiler be empty and cut out by that point? I've had hot water and heat no problem but the gauge keeps showing low pressure

Hi there’s still a couple of things which could be causing the issue. You could have a crack in the main heat exchanger inside the boiler. The leak could be leaking down into the condensate pipework and thus been undetectable. If you add pressure to your boiler and then isolate the flow and returns and leave it over night it’ll give you an indication to wether the leak is on your heating system or inside the boiler. it also sounds like you could have a problem with the expansion vessel inside the boiler. It may need recharging but water would definitely be dripping out of your pressure relief valve/pipework. The water would only come out once the heating water was hot though. it wouldn’t do it cold. Hope this helps
