Shower running lukewarm when heating option switched on on combi boiler.

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

We have a combi boiler. We currently have the setting on the boiler switched on to allow for both the heating and hot water to be on (in summer we switch the heating off completely and just allow for the hot water). In winter, even when we don't have the heating switched on heating the radiators and just want a hot shower, the shower runs lukewarm compared to when we the heating switched off on the boiler. We never have both the heating/radiators on at the same time as a shower. Why is it running cold when we have the heating/hot water option switched on on the boiler?

More likely to be diverter valve allowing heat to pass down into rad rather than into plate heat exchanger. Either way you need to call a gas safe engineer to repair this.

Even though it's a combo boiler, there is only one boiler to heat both streams by means of a valve. If your shower is ok when the heating is off, it would suggest this valve isn't functioning properly. As with all gas related appliances- this should be checked and repaired by a properly qualified gas safe registered engineer.

Sounds like the diverter valve if radiators come on when you put your hot water on
