Damp Proofing

Damp and mould in flat. Excessive condensation in loft area.

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

There is a lot of condensation in the loft area at the front of building. Rooms in underneath flat are damp with mould now growing on walls. Any ideas for best solution to problem please? Many thanks.

We have resolved similar issues by inserting some felt vents which will allow airflow through the loft space. You may also need to top up your loft insulation.

Hello, take a look in the loft space this is most likely due to lack of insulation. This could also be down to ventilation, installing felt lap vents is effective and easily installed from inside the loft space.

The previous answer is almost correct with a recommendation of 250-300mm of loft insulation for maximum efficiency in a property. Without a visual inspection and confirmation of current ventilation in the property it is hard to confirm the cause of the damp and mould. If the property is not ventilated correctly then it could be a condensation issue with the mould in the coldest areas of the property. While penetrating damp could be from a simple cause as a leaking drainpipe. I would advise a full damp survey before action to determine the cause with factual recommendations before moving forward.
