Hi, I had a decorator in to paint some newly plastered walls in my house. I don’t recall them doing a mist coat before and after a few months some of the paint is flaking off a couple of the walls. I’ve peeled it off, sanded and repainted (with a mist coat) but months later it has started doing it again.
I’ve heard Zinsser peel stop is the way forward. Do I need to apply another mist coat if I scrape the paint back down to plaster? And if so do I do this before or after the peel stop?
Also once I’ve scraped all the loose paint off, I think I may need to use some filler to even out the surface, at what stage would I need to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Hi
It sounds like a mist coat hasn't been applied. In order for you to rectify the issue you will need to scrape back all the flaking paint, then apply zinsser peel stop to glue down all the paint edges. After that you will need to fill and sand the areas where the paint has been scraped off to make it smooth again. Then mist coat ( I recommend isomat 2in1 primer) then your chosen top coat.
Unfortunately a long process which would not be necessary if it had been mist coated correctly.
Thanks

Peel stop first, then filler sand the filler then more peel stop then mist coat again.
Hi, Scrape off any peeling paint, then sand the area. Apply a coat of peel stop and allow to dry. Then file and let dry. Sand out and reapply peel stop. Then dry and apply any color. I hope my advice was useful.
Scrape the paint off give the walls a wipe with damp cloth to make sure no dust or residue on the wall, give it another mis coat this should show up where it needs filling etc apply your filler where needs be then mis coat the filler before applying your final neat coats, ps give the filler plenty of time to dry out as it may show through if applied too quickly. Peelstop is an option for flaking paint however there be another reason as to why it is coming off so if it happens again you could use an alkali resisting primer as your mis coat solves most issues.

Hi Zinsser peel stop primer or PVA is what you need to coat the wall with first allow to dry then this will seal the wall ready for painting.
Good morning.
Scrape off any peeling paint, then sand the area. Apply a coat of peel stop and allow to dry. After drying do filling where it's needed and let the filler to dry. Sand out and reapply peel stop 1 more cout to be sure you didn't miss. After will dry you can apply any paint/colour you want.
Have a nice day.

Hi, Applying Zinsser Peel Stop is a good choice to address flaking paint. Before applying Peel Stop, it's advisable to scrape off the loose paint down to the plaster. After scraping, if the surface is uneven, you can use filler to smooth it out.
Here's a suggested sequence:
1. Scrappe Off Loose Paint then Filler for Uneven Surfaces then Mist Coat then Zinseer peel stop, and top coat at the end.
