Kitchen Fitting

Relocate washer and rejig units/ sink

Anonymous user 24/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

I’m in the process of buying a new home. The current kitchen set up has no washer as the owner has got theirs set up in an attached to the house shed. Whilst this seems an ideal set up having looked at the survey photos there’s no electrical set up in the shed so I suspect there’s an extension lead plugged in somewhere when this is used and obviously this didn’t something I’m willing to do. I’m keen to get the washer in the kitchen however the current set up is making me wonder how to do this. It’s a smallish kitchen in an old Victorian terrace attached to a front room and through dining room. Theres a large 1 1/2 sink on top of a cupboard and a set of drawers - cupboard on left drawers to the right. the draining board is on the right hand side. The drawers dont look wide enough to fit a washer so would it be possible to 180 the sink ( or replace depending on tap holes ) so the bowl is on the right -I’m guessing I’d lose all the drawers as be taken up with sink pipes etc and I’d need a door :( also got no idea if there’s a standpipe there already - or can I put the washer not under the sink and just lost a different existing cupboard but not sure how that would work with pipes/ standpipes and power etc. thanks.

Yes it would be possible to fit it in, the measurement you are looking for, under the sink is 605mm, which will fit the washer. Its possible you will need to swap out the sink for a new (small) one and possibly switch it, as you say to the other side

Considering the constraints, relocating the sink may be challenging due to plumbing and space limitations. It might be more feasible to explore other options, such as repurposing an existing cupboard for the washer or installing it in a nearby space. Consult with a plumber to assess plumbing requirements and determine if there's a suitable spot for both water supply and drainage. Ensure proper electrical provisions are in place, avoiding the use of extension cords for safety. Professional advice can guide you in finding a practical solution within the limitations of the kitchen layout.
