Weep holes weeping
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.54 PM
Just needed to check weep holes are supposed to weep. I’m in process of buying a house the weep holes have wept quite alot from above the kitchen window . Much more than any other house . Should I be worried or is this normal ?

Weep holes or weep vents are to prevent your cavity building up too much moisture which aids the cavity in the brickwork to maintain essential air flow . If the weep vents become blocked then the potential is there for a build up of unwanted damp , this can lead to problems with the brickwork and condensation especially around windows . Another reason for weep vents / holes is to prevent insects like mosquitoes and flies that are a pest from breeding in and around window frames .
Hope this helps

Hi, you shouldn’t be worried. Weep vents that weep are working correctly. Bricks can absorb a lot of rain and we’ve had a lot of rainfall over recent months so I’m not surprised there weeping.
