Leaking BOX Gutter.

Anonymous user 19/02/2024 - 2.30 PM

I have a lead lined BOX gutter. During heavy Rain, only sometimes, water starts to trickle down the bedroom wall from behind the coving (approx. 2ft of the length). I have obtained the following 3 possible solutions/quotes. Quotes are for dealing with the COMPLETE length of the BOX gutter (approx 9 Meters) just so that other leaks do not appear elsewhere in the future. Options are as follows: 1. Line the whole gutter with FELT and mastic any gaps between wall and lead (£750) 2. Two layers of Fibreglass installed (£1740) 3. Clean out BOX gutter & paint Coat with Aquapol waterproof Fibred paint (£600) I’m inclined to go for the FELT option as my understanding is that Fibre glass is a bit "Hit & Miss" and likely to last roughly the same time as the Felt ? Any advice and best solution would be much appreciated please. Many Thanks.

any photos as these will help. as a roofing contractor the more info I have the better e.g photos. video. etc. and the best option. to come and visit the client. and have a proper look at the box gutter. while it's raining or use a water pipe hose to stimulate water ingress.

The options can work, but first I would first want to know how decision was made, I.e was inspection completed to view / inspect area. I always would complete physical inspection or CCTV Inspection. It's hard to say exactly what the causes are without inspection or pictures, but There could be a number of (other) reasons that are causing issues and I would want inspection first as a lot of money to hand over.
