Clearing outside drain of roots

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi There, Have an outsidepipe in the ground that currently has rain water going into it. We had the go ahead to convert this to a sewer drain(as runs back to the main sewer) but the pipe has bits of root inside meaning currently unsuitable for waste water. I have heard of this tools that can go down your pipe and clean it out and wondered if this was possible? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, Yes there are, but they typically use water jets so it would depend how big the root is. However if the roots are getting in then there is a breach somewhere in the pipe. So I would recommend having a drain survey carried to confirm.

Hi Sounds like the pipe has cracked causing the roots to appear. A simple attempt to unblock it with drain rods might be the answer. But if the pipe is damaged and reblockage occurs wise to have it dug up and renewed.

It sounds like you may have a crack or hole in the pipe causing the roofs to grow through. As a groundworker i would recommend getting it dug up and check it that way or put a rod camera down it to see how bad the issue is.

The rain causes groundwater levels to rise, which can create backup issues in the private sewer lines that connect homes to the community waste removal system. This is a typical summer plumbing problem. Excess rain causes sewer line issues in another way, too: tree roots
