Painting job cancelled

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I hired a painter to install coving and paint a 4 bed house. He wanted to be paid room by room which I agreed to. One of the rooms has been paid late (3 days after invoiced) over concerns about quality of work (I pay too much attention to detail). The painter thought it is okay to cancel the job and ask for more payment for coving he installed in unfinished rooms (painting work in progress) as a condition to carry on with the job. Shall I pay him? I do not want to get more involved with the guy but I do not want to be unfair.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Do not pay him in advance for any thing. Find another decorator. Paying an invoice in 3 days is not late, all my customers have 7 days grace

No you shouldn’t. You weren’t happy with the work you previously paid for.

I wouldn't pay until the job is finished. We always finish the job and ask customer to check everything. When customer is happy and no snagging is required then we send invoice and wait 7 days for payment.
