Bay window to French doors
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
I have taken out a large bay window in upper bedroom and dropped the brickwork and installed 2x French doors. Outside is a balcony above the living room which forms part of the living room bay windows. I’ve only just realised that I may have required a builders certificate or some sort to authorise this. Can someone please advise and if so what steps I should take to resolve?

Hi you would firstly need planning permission from building control also you’d then need some sort of certification to say it’s been done by someone who knows what they doing like a certass or fends certificate

You are supposed to inform building controll local authority before doing this kind of works incase of no lintels etc or making the opening bigger?
In this case you can use your indemnity insurance if you ever come to sell the house which will cost around £180.

Planning is totally different to building regulations. However you may well need planning permission and most certainly you will need to involve building control.
My advice would be get a local architect to do some drawings of what you would like to achieve, he may well have a local or private building control officer he deals with and could do the application for you.
