Is a requirement to always have a direct pipe connection from sink, toilet etc to an SVP?

Anonymous user 11/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

If I've got about 5 sinks in one room that I need to connect to an SVP, would all the 5 sinks need to have their own direct connection to the SVP ?or I can just have one main branch pipe connected to the SVP and then connect the 5 sinks to the branch pipe. Basically I just want to know if you always need to have a direct connection from the sink or toilet to the SVP or if you can just have one main branch connected to the SVP and then have other branch pipes connected to that main branch pipe

No you do not…the normal process would be to run one large waste pipe(usually 50mm) and tee in to it with the 40/32mm waste pipes from sinks and basins. You may want to fit a small air admittance at the beginning of the run or traps with air admittance valves combined(these are called anti vac traps). Hope that helps.

You don't need 5 separate connections. I take it the sinks are in a row like a toilet block. You can have 50mm (2 inch) pipe run at low level with each 32mm (1 1/4) pipe from the basin teeing into that pipe. On the end of the 50mm pipe you want a access clearing eye in the event of a blockage it can be rodded..also I would advise to put anti syphon traps on each basin

You could run all 5 sinks into a 4 inch pipe into the stack, with each sink being trapped before going into 4 inch waste into stack

You can run one main waisted pipe ideally 2"inch pipe and teeing off with 1½" inch pipe connecting with 1¼ connection as close as possible to the sink, taking into consideration that waste terminates in a drain or 4"inch soil stack, no air vent should be needed. You can use anti syphon traps but they sometimes get blocked over time. Standard bottle traps should be fine with the exception of 27mm to ever 1m gradient. Hope that helps
