Can a ducted extractor fan be placed next to a non- ducted cooker hood?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.36 PM

I own a fourth floor flat and the original extractor fan in the kitchen was placed in the ceiling next to the cooker (not above). This seemed to work fine for years and there were no issues. However a few years ago it broke, and the electrician just left it in situ, then just installed an additional non ducted cooker hood over the cooker instead. Now the humidity levels in the flat are very high and it’s starting to cause mould. I would like to increase ventilation, so can I install a replacement extractor fan (ducted) in the original position, as well as having the cooker hood? Is this safe/possible to do?

Yes absolutely. One wont interfere with the other and sounds like the extra ventilation will help towards your mold issues.
