Is it possible to remove half of a party wall chimney stack?

We're in the process of planning a loft extension and house refurbishments for our mid-terrace Victorian home. The existing plans are already in place. Our house shares a chimney stack with our neighbour. While our chimney breast is still intact, our previous neighbour removed their side of the breast many years ago, and it's currently supported by a gallows bracket. As part of the loft extension project, we're considering the removal of the chimney, and ideally, we'd like to get rid of the entire stack, as it would create additional space in the room. Keeping the stack would also necessitate inserting steel beams, as gallows brackets are no longer allowed. Since we have a good relationship with our neighbor, we plan to discuss the idea of removing the chimney stack and making the necessary fixes to his roof. Nevertheless, he might be hesitant to agree, as he tends to value preserving "original features." If our neighbour objects to removing his side of the stack, is it feasible to vertically divide the stack down the middle? To support his portion of the stack, is there a strapping method to attach his stack to the party wall that we need to extend upwards for the extension.
