Move internal door (stud wall)
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.02 PM
Hi, I would like to move my bathroom door slightly (roughly a foot or two) to create enough space for a larger shower as part of a bathroom renovation. The wall is a stud wall. I was wondering what a rough price for this would be? I appreciate there's a lot of factors that could affect it but I'm just looking for a rough estimate

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out with your query. Moving an internal door, especially in a stud wall, is a great solution for optimizing space for your bathroom renovation.
To provide you with a rough estimate, I would consider the following:
The cost of labor for a day, which typically includes altering the stud wall framework, repositioning the door, and making good on the finish.
Materials required, such as new studs, plasterboard, jointing compound, paint, and possibly a new door frame and door, if the current one cannot be reused.
Additional materials for finishing touches, such as trim and decorations.
However, as you've mentioned, there are several factors that could influence the final quote, such as:
The need for any rerouting of electrical wiring or plumbing.
The type and quality of the new materials required.
The finish that you are looking for, including the type of door, trim, paint, or any special requirements.
The disposal of any construction waste.
As a rough estimate, you could be looking at a range from £200 to £300 for labor plus materials. This is a ballpark figure and for an accurate quote, I would need to carry out a site inspection to understand all the intricacies of the job.
Please let me know if you would like to arrange a visit for a precise quotation.
Best regards,
Graham

The price would depend on which type of wall it is. Stud wall about a day to remove lining build stud back
Cut back stud to form new opening.
Board and skim half a day if you're lucky! Return to make to hang door and make good to skirting and architrave.
Clean up, if its lath and plaster , it's a big mess.
Estimate £900 plus materials
Add another day to this if you have a brick wall.
£1200+
